Katarína Vančíková leads the Department of Elementary and Pre-school Pedagogy at the Faculty of Education inMatej Bel University, Banská Bystrica, and she has been working there since 2001. She has developed a career in the field of teacher´s preparation at pre-school and primary levels. In her teaching and lecturing she addresses the issues of sociology in education, multicultural education, and compensatory education for children from disadvantaged social environments. Her research and publishing activities focus on the issues of equal educational opportunities, and the concept of inclusive education.
She participated in carrying out the state order – to increase Roma community socialization through the educational system, to by implemented by social and missionary staff, as well as teacher's assistants. She coordinated the "IS EQUAL" project, which focused on improving access to education for vulnerable population groups. She was a member of the specialist team on the PRINED National Inclusive Education Project. She is the co-author of the Special Report on Roma Inclusion in Early Childhood Education and Care in the Slovak Republic RECI +, in which she analyzed current problems concerning access to educational services for the most endangered group of poor Roma children.
Katarína works for the "Learning Makes Sense" project MESA10 as analyst specializing in the field of permeability of education.
